Producing your own product and selling them to clients is definitely one way to approach the marketing business. However, this does require a lot of investment, not only in terms of money, but also your time and effort. Affiliate marketing pertains to a joint venture between a manufacturer or product merchant and a marketer. The merchant does all the work and the marketer takes charge of marketing and promotion. Both parties earn with each sale or referral made.

This setup works very well for the merchants because they no longer have to spend a lot on marketing efforts, they can leave that job to their affiliates. The marketers have an unlimited earning potential, depending how well they market and promote a product.

Affiliate marketers get paid with every sale or referral that results from their site. When an affiliate registers with a program, they are usually assigned a unique link that allows the merchant to track where the sales are coming from. The sales commissions are then computed periodically and sent to the marketer via a predetermined mode of payment.

Deciding on the Affiliate Product

There are tons of products and services you can choose to market, and your choice will have a large role in determining your maximum earning potential. It is advisable to select a product or service that offers a reasonable percentage or sales commission for your efforts and one that you are also interested in.

It would also help to know a thing or two about your chosen product so you can easily answer any questions that your target customers may have. A marketer that is authoritative and well-informed will be able to attract more clients and customers. Also having knowledge about what you are selling, will allow you to promote credible ads and affiliate product reviews.

Most merchants will actually give you a bunch of marketing literature that you can use, and it would be to your advantage if you really go through these materials before even starting to promote the products. A manufacturer’s inability or refusal to do this reflects poorly on his company and you should seriously consider moving to a different merchant.

There are a lot of companies that offer 50% or even more on direct sales commissions. Companies that offer multi-level affiliate programs are extremely popular and usually very successful. You are usually the one who can choose what product and company you want to promote, such as Clickbank, as many companies do not require to select affiliates.
